Hello guys,
Ive been on this site for about 6 months, made a comment or two, but have mainly been just reading all the great articles.
Ive been repairing computers for friends and family for ages, but have just started officially doing it as a business.
Wondering if I could please get some feedback on my website:
www starsky com au
It's been half done professionally, half by me. Its a modified zen-cart installation.
Im pretty happy with the way it all looks, but am wondering if I could get some pointers on search engine optmisation? I havent really read up on how to do this and am not sure how my site ranks? Basically, i want the best result on google possible when a search is done for "computer repair melbourne" or something similar. Any ideas, or can you tell me what could be done better at the moment?
Thanks very much,
I look forward to taking my computer repair more seriously and becoming more involved with the Technibble site.

I think its a great web layout and I like the mouse vector image. The only thing that stood out to me that I didn't like was the "eezy peezy." If you're going for a more casual approach to advertising I'd say this is ok, but your template makes it look professional and kind of sets it off. It's also a little weird to say Eezy Peezy in your mind when you're reading. Just my thoughts
Good luck!

Very very nice. I love the brilliant colors and the happy users. (we all want happy users dont we?)
Two Suggestions:
On many of the pages, your text in blue make it appear (at least with firefox) that it is a clickable link. I would change them to black and perhaps bold.
On your FAQ's page, the mouseovers text should be in blue or another color and the first line should be in black. In my experience blue=clickable but with mouseovers of course as soon as you get there you realize that you have the information.
JMTC = Just My Two Cents (or are you using shillings there?)
Good luck with the new business.

It appears you are using a font that is not commonly used or installed as your bullet points as I get this problem:

You need to check your punctuation & spelling, for example on the Paypal link it's captioned "Its safe, easy & convenient" - this should be "It's safe, easy and convenient". You've also got mixed capitalisation in several areas, for example on the Virus & Spyware page:
Not only can viruses and adware greatly reduce your computers speed and efficientcy, they can also lead to much more serious problems such as Identity Theft, theft of personal information and deletion of data!
As other have said you need to also fix the differing font in the embedded links, it looks a bit odd as it is, the different colour should be enough to identify it as a hyperlink.
I've also just noticed that the indentation on the 'About Us' page is a bit out on the second paragraph onwards.
That said it's very good and overall looks professional, but as the saying goes "first impressions last".
Good luck! :)

Wow! You guys are really thorough when reviewing a web page, great stuff!
Ill go through and respond to each suggestion:
1. "Eezy Peezy PC" motto: I dont believe this is too casual or slang for effective advertising, maybe Eezy Peezy is just a saying used more in Australia? I asked heaps of people what they thought when i was throwing around different ideas and the feedback to this was good, particularly from the elderly. Besides, its embedded in my website, on my business cards and my advertising, it aint going anywhere anytime soon!
2. Blue text - great suggestion, I will get it changed soon. I did run through a few different font settings and colors and blue is one of the better looking ones, but i will have to find something different.
2.1 Mouseover text Another good suggestion, will get it changed soon.
3. Bullet point fonts The bullet points are little "ticks", the code used is standard for both IE and Firefox --> & # 10003 ; <-- remove the spaces
I tested out the site on many different browsers and computers and all displayed the ticks correctly, can anyone else tell me if they are getting the same problem?
4. Punctuation and capitals - Ive tried to fix up as much as I can, i fixed what you pointed out and will go over the site again with spell check a bit more thoroughly. As for the spelling on the paypal image, I didnt create that image so it will be a pain to change, but I will be replacing it soon with a rotating banner advertising my services, so it wont be there much longer. Also fixed the paragraph indentation and changed the mouseover text to blue.
Not sure if Eezy Peezy is a Brit saying, but its used enough in Australia that people can recognise it.
Thanks for the positive feedback as well, my biggest goal with my website is to make it look as professional as possible so that if someone compares me to one of the big computer repair places, my website will put me on par.
Thanks again for feedback, again, any tips on SEO though? Can anyone point me toward any guides that have used to improve their rankings?
Cheers guys,
Starsky.
