View Full Version : Trying to create a database
I've been planning a CRM database on the paper for some time now, and decided to create it using Microsoft Access. The problem is that I've rarely used Access so I need some help.
Basically, I'm using the database to keep records of the clients personal information, as well as their work orders and the related invoices. Every form or table links to another.
What I need to know if it's possible to create some sort of a main page, so that when I open the database I get several buttons (a menu) like...
- Insert new Client (a button which opens a form to insert a new client in the database)
- Create a New Work Order ( a button linking to a form where I can create a new work order, which also links to the clients records)
etc...
Is that possible?
Found the answer.
For those who might be searching for this and don't have any experience with access, this is how you do it.
Create a form with the necessary buttons linking to the forms or tables you'd like to and save it. (ie. Main Menu). Go the Access Options and go to the Current Database tab (in 2007 version). You can choose which form to open on startup.

Use personaldatabasecreator.com :)
Much easier.
Complete database application that's a hell of a lot easier to use that anything else out there.
Doesn't look like a future proof application though :p

Dan, check out the thread here; http://www.technibble.com/forums/showthread.php?t=5241&highlight=workorder
That might give you a good place to start to customize it to your exact needs.
I've tried that before but I never got it to work. Maybe because I don't have a C drive  How can I change that?

It's in the database linking. Depends on what version of access you use.
Basically, you open up the "frontend" version, then go to Database tools, then Linked table manager and tell it where the data file is located.
That's in 2003. It's similar in 2007, but I don't know exactly where it is on the stupid ribbon.
It's exactly the same in 2007 :D You're great :)
ahhh... Create New Customer ain't working :/ Error 2950

Access 2007 is opening the program in untrusted mode. You have to allow it to run macros and code. Somewhere in there should be an option to let it run correctly.

Also, to be clear: The program that opens up and has two very large buttons that says "Add New Customer" and "Existing Customer" (or something like that) is our Kiosk program. We use it at our front desk to very quickly create a new customer, new workorder, and print out a sheet for them to sign. It's not meant to be used for anything other than that... You can also create a new customer in the "main" program by clicking the customers button on the menu, then adding a new record with the record selectors at the bottom of the screen.
