Hi I am doing some work for a customer. They are trying to set up a VPN. and they asked me over the phone what their ip address was. So i connected my computer right to the cable mode, went to like whatsmyip.com and got the ip address.. And I could ping it no problem.. but he said he couldnt ping it, and i can't as well at home. Any suggestions? ip address was 216.221.72.166

Log in to the his/her router and enable the PING WAN IP.
If there is no router then call the ISP and ask them for more info.

If they're on cable, they may have a dynamic ip. It probably changed. Use something like dyndns to avoid the issue. Never tried dyndns with a vpn, though. hmmm. . . I'll have to think about that one.
