Does anyone else here use IRC?
I reckon it would be good for Technibble to get onto IRC.
Even for us techs just to get quick advise, there would always be someone lurking around lol

Wouldnt even need to be on a private server or anythin'; could register on undernet or somethin' similar to get one up and going. Pre-configure a IRC script and upload it here for the members of Technibble.

I second that Methical. I was on there for a while in high school sniping movies off tmz and trying to sling the vcds at school.

Ah, back before torrentz were the in thing.

Give it a couple day and I'm sure we would have more support. But all in all its up to Bryce. Technibble is his.

Its not like I'm going to run off and register #technibble with rizon or undernet lol

A server isnt a problem. I have a server we use for my other site so I could make the server address something like irc.technibble.com

I like the idea of chatting to my fellow techs, but what happened over at my other site was it diverted the main users attention away from the forums. Without these key users providing their input on the forums, it devalued the place leaving only newbies left.

Id prefer the attention of everyone to be here on the forums in a easy to read, recordable location where everyone can benefit from everyones knowlege without having to worry about chat time zones.

Yes and if those things happen Bryce will abandon us like he did this other site he mentions. The problem I see is we don't have a large enough active user base to make the chat. I think most the time will be inactive or we just wont really use it. I myslef would just use it to chat not to get help but I am sure others would and I am sure I would have questions from time to time that I would ask.

go onto the server irc.freenode.net and join the channel ##technibble

so as not to be on there primary channels lists

and there you go.. free solution, provided you don't mind the hoops.. see you on the irc side of things.

btw: for those worried that the forums may atrophy, we could always make reference to the forum for those who come to ask the questions that already have been addressed.

Bryce's current solution is free in that it is an IRC server he already has a channel on.

if it is moderated with only legitimate business people being allowed in , which means they would have to provide proof before being allowed to have the channel key, then i would be all for it, it would be nice to have a place to chat about random computer issues or business issues without having to wait for answers

you really have no idea... if you really are into the irc thang.. freenode.net has PLENTY of channels to fill the void. its really up whether or not you need multiple servers to connect to just to get your fix..

You want the server he has a channel on it is irc.twistedeggs.com port 6667 there is not a Technibble channel and I don't think he desires to officially do one if people do one they can do it where ever. I would just keep in mind you are using his sites name so if you did you better keep it clean.

I agree with Bryce on this. I was thinking similar thoughts when I was reading this thread.

Taking the discussion of these forums to IRC for convenience is nice for the person that needs the help at that time, but what about the rest of us that come on and read about these problems and their solutions that were posted while we weren't around a computer. I know I read most if not all new threads at some point or another and from it I some times learn about problems I've never seen before and their solution or easier solutions to problems I have seen before.

If anything an IRC server could be used more as a laid back place to chat, maybe that's where some of the rants about customers, and off topic discussion can happen, without having to worry about who sees what your saying.
