Hey Wise Ones,

After moving a Dell GX 60 from Win2k to XP, both the built-in Ethernet port and the built-in speaker port do not work.

Device Manager fails to find drivers for either.

I have Internet connection thru a wireless card, so I don't really care about the Ethernet card atm, but would like to get the speaker port working.

Had similar problem with different Dell's built-in Ethernet port recently, spent hours fighting it, including downloading the apparently correct driver from the Dell site....never got the built in ethernet port working.

So this time I am hoping someone has a generic solution.

Why they heck are Dell built-in drivers not found by DevManager like pretty much all other drivers are?

Is there a way to get these drivers....yah....as I said I tried the Dell site....I guess I am just confused that DevManager fails, and I failed on Dell site....

Any help here?

Thanks,

I am not sure what you mean with why wont windows find the built in drivers.

If the PC was with by dell with 2k and and it was purchase and used with 2k. If later you upgrade to XP then it would be normal for drivers not to be found if they are not compatible.

Have you tried going here

Device manager fails to find drivers quite alot in my experience. though it may just be my luck in having systems with awkward hardware :P

personally the first thing i do when i can't find a driver is use lavalys' everest, and run it on the machine, find out what the hardware actually is, who the motherboard is made by, the chipsets etc... you'll probably have more luck finding them from the original manufacturers site if you can't grab them from dell's site.

or some well known driver sites, google will guide you as always! =)

You will need to locate the Dell Service Tag number that is located on the outside of the case, sometimes on the front, back or side, on a black and white sticker. With that Tag number all you need to do is go to the Dell support link that Lunchbox provided and plug in your Service Tag number. It will take you to all the drivers you need for your Dell system. It is normal for Windows not to find drivers for the NIC inside Dell units.

That issue also happened to me.
I have GX240, its sound card driver were all installed properly but still no sounds. I dont have time for a long troubleshooting that is why I just bought a new card for it.

Now its all OK.

Nope. Make time, thats what we're all about here, long weekends spent at home Googling endlessly to solve someone else's problem for free while everyone else is at the club or whatever. Mastering driver installs is a must.
