View Full Version : PC won't boot

I've got an old Gateway, 733 mhz that I've been playing around with. I switched hard drives out last night along with memory and I'm trying to boot from the cd-rom to see if an old version of linux is something I'd like. Anyway, the pc won't boot at all now. It will power on, the replacement hard drive and cd-rom will spin a bit, but nothing happens. Ive noticed the pc cooling fan isn't coming on like it used to. Is this just a motherboard that decided to go bad or am I overlooking something?

Anything on the screen? any post beeps? Unplug the harddrive and see if you can at least get it up to the stange saying there is no harddrive.

Tried that as well with no luck. Even tried putting in a hard drive with a good operating system along with a different power supply and still nothing.

Based on the fact there are no error beeps, nothing comes up on screen and the cooling fan doesnt come on like it used to. Its either going going to be a dead motherboard or CPU. If you want, try a final test and put back what was in it before and see if that works (assuming it was working then).
