Hi all, I have a customer who came to fix her laptop. the problem is that when you press the power button it will turn on and wait for 20 seconds or less, no video in the screen and then it will restart itself and do the same thing in a loop. the harddrive light turn on and goes off immediately. i try to use a vga cable and plug to external monitor and still no video. i took out the ram and plug in back and the hard drive and nothing. the computer still turns on for 20 sec or less and restart and goes in a loop. there is air that comes out of the ventilations, so the fan is turning on. i even took out the battery and use ac cable only and nothing.
any ideas what is the problem with this? thanks

Try Removing the ac adapter and run it with just the battery if that dont work it might be a heat issue or a bad board

I would like to thanks all of you for your help especially the person who provide the link to hp website. i spoke to HP and they said it is a hardware failure in some of their laptops. they did not specify it was the motherboard, all they said it was a known hardware failure. HP will repair the laptop for me.
Looks to me that this is kind of crazy. a friend of mine has a compaq and the same thing happened to him. i have a HP computer and and sometimes it give me problems. watch out guys, in my opinion HP are piece of crap. I used to own dell before and never ran into problems.
