I'm having trouble removing the latest strain of spyware virus. I've gotten pretty good at removing the runsrv32 and susp viruses using hijack_this and SmitFraudFix, but this latest virus has me stumped. Here's the latest hijack_this log. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Step 1: Download and install Ewido/AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 (http://www.ewido.net/en/)
1. After download, double click on the file to launch the install process.
2. Choose a language, click "OK" and then click "Next".
3. Read the "License Agreement" and click "I Agree".
4. Accept default installation path: C:\Program Files\ewido anti-spyware 4.0, click "Next", then click "Install".
5. After setup completes, click "Finish" to start the program automatically or launch ewido by double-clicking its icon on your desktop or in the system tray.
6. The main "Status" menu will appear. Select "Change state" to inactivate 'Resident Shield' and 'Automatic Updates'.
7. Then right click on ewdio in the system tray and uncheck "Start with Windows".
8. Go to Start > Run and type: services.msc
Press "OK".
Click the "Extended tab" and scroll down the list to find ewido anti-spyware 4.0 guard.
When you find the guard service, double-click on it.
In the Properties Window > General Tab that opens, click the "Stop" button.
From the drop-down menu next to "Startup Type", click on "Manual".
Now click "Apply", then "OK" and close the Services window.9. Select the "Update" button and click "Start update". If you are having problems with the updater, manually update with the Ewido Full database installer from here (http://download.ewido.net/ewido-signatures-full-current.exe). Exit Ewido when done - DO NOT perform a scan yet.

Step 2: Reboot your computer in SAFE MODE (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial61.html)" using the F8 method. To do this, restart your computer and after hearing your computer beep once during startup press the F8 key repeatedly. A menu will appear with several options. Use the arrow keys to navigate and select the option to run Windows in "Safe Mode".

Step 3: Scan with Ewido as follows:
1. Launch Ewido, click on the "Scanner" button and choose the "Settings" tab.
Under "How to act?", click on "Recommended actions" and choose "Quarantine" to set default action for detected malware.
Under "How to Scan?" check all (default).
Under "Possibly unwanted software" check all (default).
Under "What to Scan?" make sure "Scan every file" is selected (default).
Under "Reports" select "Automatically generate report after every scan and UNcheck "Only if threats were found".2. Click the "Scan" tab to return to scanning options.
3. Click "Complete System Scan" to start.
4. When the scan has finished you will be presented with a list of infected objects found. Click "Apply all actions" to place the files in Quarantine.

IMPORTANT! Do not save the report before you have clicked the Apply all actions button. If you do, the log that is created will indicate "No action taken", making it more difficult to interpret the report. So be sure you save it only AFTER clicking the "Apply all actions" button?

5. Click on "Save Report" to view all completed scans. Click on the most recent scan you just performed and select "Save report as" - the default file name will be in date/time format as follows: Report-Scan-20060620-142816.txt. Save to your desktop. A copy of each report will also be saved in C:\Program Files\ewido anti-spyware 4.0\Reports\
6. Exit Ewido and Run Hijack This again. Tick everything in bold below including the bold-red. The bold-red is part of the actual virus. Do NOT tick anything other than the lines mentioned here.

No probs, since we are a new site it'd be great if you could point other people with computer problems here :)

I've followed the same steps outlined (I'm a computer tech and this one has me totally stumped!)
When I try to fix checked in Hijackthis it appears to remove the entries but I rerun the scan and they are back. I cannot get rid of these annoying spyware popups.

Have also ran AVG Antispyware, AdAware, Spybot, Pest Patrol, Trend Micro online scan, CA Antivirus 2007 and others, SmitRemFix didn't do anything at all for me

More help?

boy did my heart sink when I saw this computer show up again
Turns out that it was only fixed for about a day. The virus came back

More help!!! I have run every scanner I know is legit, and it appears to go away until I reboot, and yes, I have of course turned off system restore :)

You will need to do your cleaning from another bootable environment. Your best bet would be to run an anti virus and spybot s&d from a bootable windows disc. Like Ultimate Boot CD for windows, or one of the many others you can *cough*find*cough* out there...

what about removing the hdd, connecting it to another pc via ide/sata to usb cable and then scanning it from the other machine. this allows the ability to scan system files fully since they are not in use to run the OS. I just did this yesterday to a machine infected with a worm and it worked just fine; it found the worm 5 times and 3 of those were hidden in the system restore are and the other 2 in the local settings of the users profile.

tried that too :)
I think I may have it gone, but I'm not turning system restore back on, that seems to be the key

the trick to these infections is finding the hidden downloader executable thats replacing the dll after its been deleted. If it comes back again moxcard post a hijackthis log.
