I believe the Buy,Sell Trade forum has a 15 post requirement. Could something similar be done for forums such as well this one here. Could even be something small like 5 just to keep one time posters from posting their "Help Me" threads in here. If they are going to ask us to help them solve their problem the least they could do is put it in the right forum.

I can't see how this could be implemented since you can't have a post limit on all the forums cos' how will any one rack up the 1st 5/10/15 posts if he can't post at all, so which ones are you going to block, if you bloack only some say you block microsft but you don't block linux that just forces a newbie to post about linux, when he really isn't intrested in linux,

what is a good idea, (it was brought up some time ago by sokmeone on here) is to have a waiting period after signup one cannot post for 24hrs, that wouldn't push away tech's since mosy people who signup browse the forums for sometime before they signup.

Its true that we couldn't block all the forums. Is there any way of making it required to post in the intro forum? Maybe a 1 post limit on all the forums but that one so they at least have to put the time in to introduce them self before they ask for help. That might also turn away some of the leeches who wouldn't post in there because they have no intention of contributing.

This could also cut down on spam, I don't know how spam bots work but they seem to chose random forums to post in so they would have to randomly post in the Intro forum to post anything.

Perhaps we need a moderator who can cull the new posts. If a new thread isn't approved it doesn't show up. Not sure how much work that would be but I don't see more then 10-20 new threads in one day which would be easy to breeze through I'd think. I suppose it could start a slippery slope deal, but this isn't meant to be a general public joe six-pack forum anyway, and if by some chance a tech's first post doesn't make it they can reregister and repost or be sneaky and wait to post, etc. Perhaps there should be anyone under 5 posts or whatnot have to have each new post (not thread) approved before it's shown.

I still like the idea that someone mentioned in another thread--Have a few tech questions when you're registering for the forums. Just basic questions - If you answer them right, you're in. If not, c'ya later!

If you start putting a time delay on when a new user can post, the user, even a tech, can become quite annoyed and decide to go elsewhere.

I can put a post requirement on this Request and Suggestion forum. Most bot spam ends up in this forum and a day old newbie shouldnt really be making requests/suggestions for this site as a whole until they spend a bit of time at the place first.
