IE 7 stuck at "run once screen"

Hey all,

Alright guys I've bee without Internet all day or I might have figured this out by now.

This is kind of long winded but I'll do the best I can.

Windows XP Pro SP2. started getting pop up's and the fake Windows Anti-Virus, Windows firewall and automatic updates turned off, etc.

It took forever to get into Safe Mode and I finally got Malwarebytes to install and ran removed 270+ entries Virtuemonde, Antivirus 2009 all kind of nasties.

Anyways ran it until I got no infections, then CCleaner and cleaned up all the useless junk, Updated to SP3 in the only window of time that I had Internet around lunch time, it installed just fine.

But I am still having a problem with IE. In Internet Properties I can set a homepage and adjust security and privacy settings and when I open IE I get the IE7 run once screen about setting your search provider no matter what I do, ON the bottom left bar it says errors on page and when I click submit nothing happens. I can type in an address or hit the home icon and I can access the internet I just cant figure out how to stop this screen.
I have not run Hijackthis yet but I am going to do that tomorrow and see what it says.

So any suggestions would be welcome, and again sorry it is so long but I wanted to give as much detail to you all as I could.

If I remember right I had the same problem on a system Monday, I think I corrected the problem by running hijackthis, remove the H1 and H0 entries except for the one you actually want to be the default homepage. You can then go and set the options for phishing filter and all that manually. Hope this helps.

I ran HJT but that didnt solve the problem, but I found a script for removing the run once and it works now. You can get it here http://www.zamaansoft.com/ scroll down and it will be on the lower left, or you can manually edit the reg. [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main] "RunOnceHasShown"=dword:1 "RunOnceComplete"=dword:1
