I've just tried this to do some follow-on work for a customer and it works great. It's basically like GoToMeeting except you can take control of their computer and do whatever you need to fix the computer. For a beta version, it's pretty stable and the performance is more than acceptable.

All you have to do is create a session and provide the customer a link to connect to the session, and that's that. Simple.

They have many cool features some of which are:

* Remote Control: With your customer's permission, you can remotely take control of their desktop to provide service just as if you were sitting at their computer.
* File Transfer*: Instantly exchange files and folders with your customers.
* Remote Diagnostics: Get your customer's system information in a single mouse click.
* Support without Interruption*: Log in as administrator or reboot and reconnect to the support session in progress.
* Multiple Sessions and True Color: Simultaneously support up to eight customers at a time. Plus, see screens in full 24-bit color.
* Mac User Support: Provide live remote support to both PC and Mac customers. (You must run the support session from a PC.)
* Unattended Remote Support*: Work while your clients are away from their computers by pre-installing Unattended Support. Set it up on as many computers as you like!

Note that it IS beta so expect some problems...but it's free! For now.

Edit: I am changing my nomination to CrossLoop.

It is very similar but it's FREE. The only difference is that you can't just provide your user a web link. They must have this installed and have an account set up. After that it's a simple matter of them starting the application and entering the access code to create a remote session. Very nice.

Update: Hmmm there is another interesting aspect to this program. If you are the person with the problem you can pay to have an "expert", whom you can choose based on their profile, and have them resolve your issue through the program. If you are the expert, you can get paid for your services with CrossLoop being the middle man.

Thanks for the info. It would be great if it came out of beta and still be free. I hope you're right.

I'll keep this in mind, because I might need it soon.

Hmm I found another nice tool that is very similar to GoToAssist. It's CrossLoop:
