If you want a hardware firewall check out IPCOP. It's awesome.

I have Comodo Firewall Pro on 3 of my computers and PC Tools Firewall Pluss on my Laptop. As far as which one is best, I'm not sure as I have not tried them all.

I have used Comodo, but I find it be a bit naggy. No matter what rule I save or create, it's always asking me to approve this or that. I have been using Sunbelt personal firewall (formally Kerio) and it seems to be better at leaving me alone. Although it will nag you a little about upgrading after a month.

Honestly, I gave up all the free virus scanner and firewalls for a license of ESET smart security. I thought it was worth $60 a year not to have all the nagging. Its firewall is very quite and I hear it had very good reviews. Haven't had a problem yet and I have been running it on 4 different machines for almost a year now.
