Okay
I fixed a computer today
I reformatted loaded the basic software antivirus etc
She took it home and it wont read her monitor...
Could it be that shes using a crt and i formatted it using a lcd?
ive never encountered this before
I am an amateur.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

If you set it to a high resolution, it might be out of range for her monitor CRT or LCD. She'll probably have to start in VGA mode, then turn up the resolution to what her monitor supports. Use F8, as if going into safe mode, only choose VGA mode instead. That'll set the resolution to something safe for all monitors.

I went over to her house and i figured out she had broke one of her pins on the vga cord.
quick fix huh?
I let her borrow a monitor for a few days until she buys a new one.

I'm happy to hear it wasn't nothing major.

Yeah me too but driving all the way to her house was such a drag.

If it's standard VGA get a pliers, pull out the broken/bent ping, cut a straightened paper clip of approximately the same diameter to the same length and insert in the VGA plug. It works, I've done it many times.

Neat trick! I never thought of that. I've never had a machine w/ a cable so bad that they couldn't be bent back into shape, but in that event, it is great to know that there is a fix. Thanks!

I wonder if this may just got the paper slip metal stuck in the PC VGA card connector.
Maybe the PC will work fine this time, but if the pin really stuck in the PC video card VGA connector, the other monitors may never work again with this PC.

I've never had it happen, it's easy to guard against, just cut the replacement a little longer than the original pin. The extra bit serves as a "handle" in case you ever need to remove it.
