Numbering Invoices

I'm putting this in Chit Chat since it's only marginally pertinent.

I create my blank work orders in word and fill them out when customers bring in the computer. The bottom of the sheet is perforated so I can tear it off and return to the customer.

I'm no word poobah and I'm looking for a way to print a number at the top and bottom of the form - increment it and print the next form etc.

Any experts out there?

I don't think word is the best method to do that. I'm no word expert, either, but I think it'd take some serious vb script to detect the last saved file's invoice number and increment it by one.

I used to do invoices in word many many years ago, when I had maybe one job a week. Beyond that, I wrote my own Access database to keep track of everything and automatically print my forms.

I have done them in Filemaker Pro before. I currently just buy custom pre-printed forms with numbering.
