Ketarin - Tired of everytime you need to install antivirus software the version on your USB device is outdated and you have to wait and download a new version while client waits on you? Ketarin is a small application which automatically updates setup packages. As opposed to other tools, Ketarin is not meant to keep your system up-to-date, but rather to maintain a compilation of all important setup packages which can then be burned to disc or put on a USB stick.
Basically, it monitors the content of web pages for changes and downloads files to a specified location. There is a tutorial explaining it all. Currently, you can either rely on a service based on FileHippo, or you can define your own rules, even using regular expressions (for advanced users).
Would love to post url but site rules wont allow me too.
"You are only allowed to post URLs to other sites after you have made 15 posts or more." so Google it. Maybe Bryce can update this post and later include link???

Great idea, thank you. Good first post. Are you the author?

Not the author just a IT company owner trying to find all the tools I can to make myself and staff work as fast as possible.
I came across this software the other day on Lifehacker(?). I tested it a bit and I'll probably start using it.
It allows you to change the name after download so it would be easy to add an entry to PStart and have the updated file automatically replace the old one with the same file name. Then you wouldn't have to change the entry or file name manually.

never mind RTFM worked well...
all said and done, it looks like it uses an xml file to remember your settings...
anyone feel like sharing XML files? Now that I know how it works, It does look like an easy way to setup the utility kit and have it auto update!
great link :D
I think there may be a chance of a security breach since the online database is user generated anyone can upload a url for say antivirus2009 call it combofix and BINGO importing it is unknowingly downloading av2009 which.......
Abe. i hope someone goes through the database.

Thank you Harold! For anyone interested, I spent several hours and have a Ketarin export file of all of the items that were in the Computer Repair Toolkit. This is great!
I understand from Bryce that some of the authors preferred that their software be downloaded via their own websites. All of the entries in the XML export use the links provided by the authors.

maybe I am just not getting this little guy, but it is really starting to annoy me.
Everytime I edit this at home and take it to my work computer it never sees my changes. Then it never sees the server on filehippo
I think it just sucks for use on file hippo, as it always gives me the red x. Then out of nowhere, it sees the update and grabs it...
but when i try and add it to a new machine, the path is always jacked up! It would make more since to have two or three copies on one machine so I can organize it. One for my stuff, one for stuff I want to install on clients machines, and one for the stuff i want to use at work... but no - you change one, and the rest seem to think you changed it also.

@Chris,
FileHippo may be having some issues. I also found Ketarin was having trouble reaching their server, but then I used Firefox to go to their homepage and it still timed out.
What I found useful in Ketarin is to have all of the files downloaded to a folder. I changed "C:\" to "{root}" in the Target so that Ketarin downloads to the same folder of whatever drive letter I run Ketarin from. Sooo, I run it from my flash drive and the updates always end up in the same folder even if the system I am on happens to use drive E:, F:, or G:.
I decided to post the Ketarin XML export and the matching PStart settings backup to YouSendIt. You can find them here for the next 7 days:

Only a few of them use FileHippo; most are direct.
Enjoy!

I'm loving this one, found it via Lifehacker back in January and have been using it happily ever since.

Has anyone had success using Ketarin with Major Geeks?
I am trying to download HiJack Reader and it is no longer available on the author's site.

If you go to the ketarin forums there is a section there called "templates & tutorials" or something similar. Inside you will find downloadable templates that you can import into ketarin that are pre-configured for specific sites. I remember seeing one there just for Major Geeks. Sometimes when you import with those templates they will prompt you for an application "ID" or name or something like that - this usually means you need to go to the app website and find the one you are downloading... like lets say I want XYZ software from majorgeeks...
The page for XYZ software is (hypothetically):
majorgeeks[dot]com/download.php?id=4321
If I import the "major geeks" template from the forums, it will (maybe) prompt me and say "What is the application ID number?"
I will type in 4321
Then it says "What is the application name?"
I type "XYZ software"
It will then add the application to my list, name it "XYZ software" and download correctly.
Cheers
