i am going to have to install a new harddrive on an hp i am working on it currently has a 300gig maxtor sata in it which about to crash. does any one have any suggestions on what i should get?

Yeah, get anything but a Maxtor. Seagate and Western digital are both brands I trust.

I've had bad experiences with Western Digital. By process of elimination that leaves Seagate!
@hi-tech: are there any other considerations you need to take into account?

@hi-tech: are there any other considerations you need to take into account?
same here. I just had to send in my 2nd western digital drive that failed it's SMART test. both were less than one year old.

WD and Fujitsu have both given me headaches over the last few years.
looking for EIDE or SATA?

I find Samsung drives very reliable. FWIW Maxtor used to be considered the best drives during the days when Seagate had serious issues with their drives (http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9E05E6DD1239F933A25756C0A9619582 60).
Yes I am that old... and a bit more. :(
