View Full Version : Suggestion for Contacts Database.

I have a customer who requires a shared contacts database for use between 4 or 5 machines. I'm looking for something free or low cost as they are a charity. They currently use a shared spreadsheet but keep running into problems.

Do they need more than one person to have access to the data, and make chages at the same time?

As far as a fully fledged CRM goes, vTiger is utterly brilliant as is SugarCRM. I support vTiger because they're fully FLOSS as opposed to the weak-kneed version that Sugar subscribes to. However vTiger is complete overkill for my client. They only need to track names and addresses and add and edit them.
@tartis - occaisonally they do but not very often only a few times per day.
What I'd like is something that I can run on a local web server that just does contacts.

Whip up something basic in access?

just use access on a shared drive.

I suggest OpenContacts. It's free and I believe it works across a LAN.

Access will then be required on each machine when they are now just using word and excel. Bit too much of an outlay really.
Jager, I'll check that out thanks.

Depending on your web skills, you could come up with a simple contacts management web application using php and MySQL that will allow them to add/delete/modify their contacts.
