I'm happy 'cause today I passed the second test for my A+ Certification.

Now, I have to study for my Net+ :)

Which A+? They are pretty easy.

That said, the NET+ is even easier; personally, I think your time would be better spent getting a CCNA.

I sould take Mine Again even though it never expires. I got mine in 1996!

Today was my second one (220-702)
Now I have both (220-701 & 220-702) that make the the A+
I still have to take Net+ then two M$ ones. The MCDST (70-685) & MCITP Windows 7 (70-680)
I took a course at the COmmunity College through the One Stop Carrer Center (Unemployment) and they're paying for them, so... I'm a take them, but as soon as I get a chance I want the CCNA and the Ethical Hacker class they offer too.

@ synack2: We were told in the class that now all them Certs expire after 3 years, but you don't have to take the test again. You just take a 'bridge" test. Like a upgrade I guess.

CompTIA changed the way their A+ certification works in order to make more money off of techs.

You are on the right path. A+ N+ are definitely must haves for someone learning. Jumping into the CCNA will most surely be overwhelming to someone trying to break into the field. (I know many who have studied and failed the CCNA) I have the A+ N+ and MCDST and working toward my Active Directory MCITP while working.

The barrier of no experience was tough to get over, even with these certs. Once I did get over that with my first job and a positive reference putting a resume out gets many responses and I keep hearing good things about the MCDST.

The two certs that I think I use at work almost daily are the MCDST and Net + the A+ didn't teach me very much that I didn't already know as a hobbyist. The MCDST will teach you things that even the seasoned techs did not know.

I now do remote and field support for 14,000 users in a major enterprise and love it! I really thank the MCDST for most of my actual OTJ knowledge.

One last thing, if I could do my cert path again, I still would do the A+ N+ and MCDST+ its a great foundation since other certs will teach based on assumed understanding of other technologies. I would be lost on my MCITP if I went strait into it.

Congrats and good luck and I hope that you have a great career ahead of you.

I agree. I wouldn't bother with the Network + at all. The CCNA will teach you much more about networking. There is no reason if you study hard and have hands on experience (either home lab or rack rental) that you cant pass the CCNA on your first shot. I did it back in 2003 as well as my CCNP in 2004.

I know many who have studied and failed the CCNA

If you failed then you weren't prepared for the exam's. With the proper preparation you can pass. Don't be discouraged.

Congratulations! As far as running a business that services residential/small business clients, the A+, Net +, and the M$ certs are where it's at. I passed the A+ back in August and I am sitting for the Net + within the next few weeks. My plan after the Net + is to study for the CCNA and eventually go after some M$ certs (MCITP). Anyways...great job and keep up the good work.
