View Full Version : Personal Backup Application?

I'm looking for a recommendation for a backup software for a home user. They don't want to use online backup, just an external hard-drive. Free or < $50.
I use a bat file which I wrote and then use windows scheduler to back up all ( changed) files , emails etc at 7 pm every other day.
Most external drives come with some sort of back up software these days but I find the batch file a lot simpler to set up and uses less resources.
A few of my business customers also us it.
Do not have it handy on this PC but can post it later if you are interested.

I can highly recommend Syncback (Zip) (http://www.2brightsparks.com/assets/software/SyncBack_Setup.zip). Free to use and easy to setup/schedule. I'm tempted to try the Pro version now actually which offers some fairly useful features over the free version - Comparison (http://www.2brightsparks.com/syncback/compare.html).
If they're willing to pay a small amount then acronis would be the best bet.

I have used SyncBackPRO (http://www.2brightsparks.com/downloads.html) and its been great. You have the ability to run different profiles on different days, you can upload to ftp or backup to a usb drive. You can config it to email the log ensuring the backup was successful. It is highly customizable and their website has lots of tutorials so its perfect for someone that isnt ultra computer savvy. The PRO version is $50.00 but I am sure the free version that Simmy recommended is great as a free alternative.
