The cost of a dell power switch.

A customer came in with a laptop that will not power on. It's a Dell Studio 1537. After a look I noticed a cable broken on the switch but the connector is protected by some resin.

After looking about I seen one on ebay for £52 (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/dell-studio-1535-1537-power-button-/140600799530?pt=UK_Computing_LaptopAccess_RL&hash=item20bc75f12a#ht_500wt_1180). I got a big shock.

I did get one cheaper but was shocked at this one and just thought I would share.

I also had a 1537 recently with a similar problem. It had been dropped and part of the lid and power switch was broken.

The resin can be removed pretty easily. An old soldering iron (hot) can scrape it away handily. Then you can clean up the pads & reattach the three wires if they're still long enough.

Unfortunately, in my case the wires were too short to reattach. Had to replace the wiring harness and switch.
