Price

After doing a bit of homework and speaking to others about the price of software.

When talking many people feel that the price of software these days it to expensive, such as Macromedia Dreamweaver is £275

Many people feel that the price on product is extortionate as it will sell anyways so what is the point of having the price so high?

What are others views about the price of software?

Hi,

Yes I agree with you about Photoshop but I have just had a look at a software like 3ds Max which is like £300 which I think is day light robbery.

lol..i have use 3ds max before..but only in the school..i think only studios and related can afford to play with such toys..however,they are complex and powerful..enough to do a animation for game or cinema..so it might be worth ..

The full version is more like £1000+, its a professional tool for creating films, Dreamworks use 3dsmax, the wave effects in The Perfect Storm used max particles, lots of top movie studios use it, and then there are people who just download a warez version and make stupid and horrible looking things :p

Well, you will think it's a robbery pay a lot for software, but you must think all work is behind a software, especially if you are talking about the most used and popular softwares.
And depends on my requirements, I could buy or not buy a software.
I won't buy webdesign softwares, because I won't use.
But I still must say, some softwares are so expensive.

I don't find paying near a thousand dollars to be worth it just to make my own sigs/avis and manga. Photoshop...

So, yes, I agree, some programs are to high priced.

Photoshop is expensive! I only bought it once and it is the reason I am still using Adobe Photoshop 7. It is extremely expensive.

Yes softwear is expensive but they spend 1000s of hours developing it. If you think about it they do make a profit but so do most of the people that use the softwear from selling what they make with it.

I think the reason it need to be so high is because to many people pirate it making the company no money but then again if it were lower would more people buy it?

I dont think that would be the cause Netman, though its possible. If that was the case it would fall into a nasty spiral. People pirate, put price up, price is too expensive, more people pirate, price goes up etc..

Id say that it is more that $1200 is poo change to most companies. Most webdevelopers can make that money back with 1 website. Unfortunantly for the hobbists its a bit much.

I agree, if the price was lower i think more people would buy the software. Its a rip off when a new Photoshop comes out in june for $799 us. then in october its $199. Itsthis type of thing that can make a pirate out of anyone.
