windows update

Hi Guys,

Wondering if anyone has seen this. Have a clients IBM T41 thinkpad. needed a new hard drive. I replaced it and reinstalled xp pro sp3 from a disk I have. Was able to enter the key and it verified it fine. My issue is windows update does not work when I try to go to it manually from system properties, windows update tab a microsoft web page opens up with KB/2497281 basically saying you need xp sp3 to run windows update but that is what is installed. any ideas? please let me know, thanks

thats a patch to turn on automatic updates and I ran that even though the pc says its setup to download updates automatically and its not doing that either.

sorry never read it just assumed Have a look at this (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144)you may need to install Windows Update Agent.

thanks for your help, didnt get a chance to try your second fix which was a good catch btw. I brought the pc back to my shop and I think the issue was on my client side firewall blocking updates? I've had firewalls block updates but usually just got a page can not be displayed screen not redirected to a microsoft kb article thats what through me off..In my shop its working fine. thanks!!

I had that problem recently and I downloaded Adobe Flash Player. Then I went to the Windows Updates Webpage again and was able to do the downloads.

just had two of these in two different locations, one clean install and one old install, fixed by installing the latest Windows Update Agent and IE7
