Sometimes (not that often admittedly) I have to delete a folder/s containing thousands of files. Just hitting SHIFT + DEL can take maybe 20-30 minutes even on a fairly fast drive. Is there any way to speed this up, a tool perhaps?

I haven't tried it myself:

DEL *.* /S /Q

A command prompt doesn't send anything to the Recycle Bin.

I'll try that out sometime, thanks.

But SHIFT + DEL doesn't either?

It does but goes through Windows procedures. There might be faster methods than DOS* but it's usually more convenient than 3rd party software.

*yeah, I know. DOS is long gone.

cmd.com is just a shell of the former glory of DOS.

+1 I've been using CMD more often these days with quicker results than programs I have. No muss, no fuss, it does the job. And I still wish to call it DOS lol. I know that's not correct but I live in the past. :p
