My friend was kind enough and gave me his laptop HP pavilion dv1000, however the LCD backlight is bad. the screen is dark and the only way to see it is using a flash light or out in the sun.
i am look for a guide to disassemble the screen and replace the inverter, also where can i buy another inverter.
i have a dell laptop that i am not using can i use the dell inverter?!!

any suggestions please

To get to the inverter and lcd, just peel away the screw covers on the front plastic lcd bezel. There should be about 6 of them. Remove the screws, then carefully pop off the plastic bezel.

You can't use a dell inverter, but you can find a replacement inverter on ebay fairly easily.
Keep in mind, even though the inverter is usually the problem with a dim screen, replacing it might not solve the problem. If you're feeling adventurous, you can take the lcd out of the HP and plug just the backlight into the inverter from your dell (You can plug that into the inverter, but not the other cable...you'll see what I mean). If you turn the dell on, and the hp's backlight comes on, you're probably safe to replace the inverter.

looks like they go for as little as $16 on ebay - http://cgi.ebay.com/LCD-inverter-fit-HP-Compaq-V2000-M2000-DV1000-ZE2000_W0QQitemZ280227545653QQihZ018QQcategoryZ315 69QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I however use a guy that costs a little more, simply because he is trustworthy and always ships fast... if anyone else needs inverters or screens, here is the guy I usually buy my stuff from - http://stores.ebay.com/DVDsuper-One

you can find the repair manual for the dv1000 here - http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00312379.pdf

So finally i got the Inverter and I replaced it.
Its working but only when I have my Power adapter plug in!! as soon as i disconnect the adapter the light from the LCD will go out.
any suggestion on what the problem could be?
