I figured I would start a thread with a list of some basic Mac / Apple resources, and add to it as time passes -- and of course everyone else can add on their own as well. A couple to start out:

List of keyboard shortcuts for OS X (there are a lot more than I knew about, handy for those times when the mouse isn't working):

For those without access to GSX and the service manuals, there's iFixit.com (their goal is to sell parts, but they have decent take apart guides)

Mactracker is a handly little app to have installed, too. It'll help you find specs on everything Mac and help identify which system you're working on.

Along those same lines, there's Apple's own Spec lookup, by serial number.

Here's a good list of various utilities for Macs..diagnostics, os utilities, etc.

As I understand it, Apple machines prior to the MDD G4 had the ATA-5 specification which left you with a maximum hard drive size of 128Gb. Even if you install a 250Gb hard drive, it will only show up as having 128Gb. I've used this with good success http://www.speedtools2.com/ATA6.html, it costs $25.

If you prefer a hardware solution you could also buy a new controller card and install it.

I don't know of any free solutions, but if you have older Macs around this might help out.
