Xp laptop freezes as soon as "applying your profile" message ends

Hello..

i am having a little problem with a laptop.. I am still a student so my knowledge is limited.
There is a laptop I was giving to try and fix, as soon as you put yo user and password. it sends a message saying it is preparing the desktop and applying user profile. As soon as that is done, the laptop freezes.. I have tried sstarteing at last best known configuration, still same problem. I have tired starting with safe mode, but that still freezes. And when i try safe mode with cmd prompt. It freezes as soon as the command prompt is displayed. it is an xp. please help/guidance.

I´m gonna bet your not studying to be a computer tech? :confused:

Did you try a boot cd like hiren's or UBCD and scan/check everything?
Or, extract the drive, slave it and scan it?

Now go from here..... after using the repair function on an XP disc ;)
