View Full Version : Laptop screen dim

Here's an odd one.
Dropped laptop, the screen is very dim.
Perhaps a bulbs? they are very thin and break easily.
We replaced the screen with a perfect match, and several other screens.
We replaced the inverter with a variety of inverts, the screen was always dim.
When video output was sent to a CRT, it was perfect.
Any ideas what causes this problem?

is it plugged in and shows it running on power cord power or charging? If not, it might be the battery saver mode which dims the screen. I know, might sound like a stupid question, but sometimes we overlook the obvious!

If you've already tried a new inverter and a new screen, and you're sure they're good parts, something on the motherboard could have been damaged, too.
It's not nearly as likely, but it can happen. Check the motherboard near where the lcd display/inverter cable plugs in to see if anything's physically or electrically damaged.
It could also be that the lcd close switch is stuck.

I ran across the same problem just the other day. I tried multiple monitors and inverters. I turned out that I didn't have the exact inverter that I needed. I looked off of the old inverter and found the exact model number and ordered it from here: http://www.lcdparts.net
Installed it and it worked!
I'm not saying that in your case it's not the motherboard, but I would try the correct inverter first just to rule that out.
You can also find the correct inverter here:
