Long story short, client fiddled with Iphone sync and managed to delete all his Outlook contacts... and yes he did empty the deleted items folder.

What ive tried so far is http://www.outlook-tips.net/howto/recover_deleted.htm with no luck, tried corrupting a copy of the pst and repair it but its still missing the contacts.

Anyone have another way of recovering it? I don't really know how the outlook deletion process looks like and if any recovery software would be good, anyone got any advice?

Getdataback for NTFS? Can retrieve deleted data I believe.

Yeah but what are the contact files? They are usually stored inside the .pst which I guess is the problem... I think I would need some program that can scan specifically within the pst file? Im not sure..

I think the contacts are within the pst file so providing you recover that deleted file then just extract what you want?

The PST file isnt deleted... he just deleted contacts stored in the pst file. Think about it like a database, the database might be stored in one file but you can delete entries within the database.

You might take a look at this: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/246153. The PST file is just a database and as long as he didn't compact it as well the data are probably still there, just marked as deleted.

Ive tried that without luck before, forgot to say that. Anyone know what could "compact" the pst file automatically? I dont think he has done anything like that manually.

I suspect your client is screwed, but here's another tool that could be promising (I've never used it): http://www.recoverytoolbox.com/outlook_contacts_recovery.html

Ive came across a few similiar ones but what I really wanted was some real testemonials of what works but I will try all trials. I suppose all recovery software has a trial option... at least being able to see what can be recovered

I have used this program before with success, Stellar Phoenix Outlook PST Repair Software v.4. PST Recovery Software. The demo version will at least allow you to see if the contacts list can be recovered.

No pst backups anywhere, huh? That's too bad if there aren't.
