I have tried everything. I've followed directions from other sites with no luck. Adaware, spybot, trend micro, none of these seem to be able to get rid of it.

Here's my Hijack This logfile:

Remove those Highlighted in Red.

As for the ones marked in Orange, if you dont know what they are then should be removed, otherwise leave them. I am not entirely sure what they are and couldnt find any info about them. In any case they are not critical to the operation of your system.

Still not working. I've tried adaware, spyhunter, avg 7.1, ewido anti-malware, trend micro housecall. The damned e2g folder keeps coming back and I keep getting popups. Latest hjt:

Nope. I'm still trying different programs. Every manual remove I've found and software remove don't work. The e2g folder keeps returning along with iebhos.dll and inicfg32.dll in the windows/system32 folder.

Some new things I've found: ewido keeps finding inicfg32.dll in the system32 folder reporting it as malware. Also, I was going through various ini's and I found this line C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\INICFG32.DLL and C:\PROGRAM FILES\E2G\IEBHOS.DLL in c:\windows\prefetch\layout.ini. I also found session.ini with different references to e2g and iebhos.dll in the c:\windows\temp directory. Here's the contents of that:

I was wondering if I can delete these lines, or the entire ini in the sessions.ini case, without screwing up my system.

Give this a shot:

Open a DOS command prompt window (from Start->Programs->Accessories), and enter the following commands, for the E2GBHO variant:
cd "%WinDir%\System"
regsvr32 /u "\Program Files\E2Give\e2gbho.dll" Or, for the IeBHOs variant:
cd "%WinDir%\System"
regsvr32 /u "C:\E2G\iebhos.dll" Restart the computer and you should be able to delete the folder 'E2Give' in Program Files (E2Give variant), or 'E2G' in the C: drive (IeBHOs variant).
You can also open the registry (Start->Run->regedit) and delete the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\E2Give to clean up, if you like.

Is your system fully patched from the Windows update site? Do you have SP2 or a firewall turned on?

Ok, good news and bad news. I tried something original and sent an email to e2give.com and actually got a response with how to remove the files from my computer. It worked. They don't show up in my HJT log anymore. The bad news: I'm still getting a lot of popups. I'm clueless now. I'm sure something was bundled with e2g and it is still resident on my system, but I can't find it. Here's the latest HJT log, but I can't find any problems with it.

Im glad whatever they sent you helped. Perhaps you can paste the instructions here for others who run into this problem?

Anyway, remove this line from the Hijack This!:

O16 - DPF: {C02226EB-A5D7-4B1F-BD7E-635E46C2288D} (Toontown Installer ActiveX Control) - http://a.download.toontown.com/sv1.0.20.18/ttinst.cab

I took a good look and everything else you have installed are normal windows processes or for known programs (Yahoo Messenger, Google Toolbar etc.).

The above is an active X control which can spawn popups in your browser.
If you are getting popups outside of IE then a file still remains on your PC, however this could be because you have other programs open that spawn popups such as Kazaa.

Toontown is a game my kids play online, but I'll kill it to see if that works. They sent me an app, but I don't know how to upload it. If someone could give me a good site, I'll post it up.

Ok, Ill write up a tutorial later. But for now, Download Hijack This here:
http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip

Once downloaded. Extract it to a location such as your desktop. Run the Hijackthis.exe file. Click "Do a system scan and save a logfile". When it is done scanning it will open up notepad and have a bunch of information in it. Copy and paste the information in the notepad file here.

Save these instructions to your computer somewhere such as the desktop or print them. Load your computer into safemode by pressing F8 before the WindowsXP logo shows when the computer is booting and choose "Safemode".

Follow these instructions:

Do a scan with hijack this as you did before, tick the boxes next to each line that I have marked red AND ONLY THESE BOXES, be careful when doing it and click "Fix Checked".

Open up windows Explorer and find and delete the following files:
Program Files\E2G\IeBHOs.dll
Program Files\data19
Windows\pi1.exe
System32\pruttct.exe
System32\skytown.exe
On your desktop: filgmo.exe
On your desktop: skytown.exe
Your Logon Name\Local Settings\Temp\ei.exeRestart.

Download AVG free from http://free.grisoft.com . Install it, update it and do a full system scan. It looks like your computer has traces of viruses. Once it has finished scanning and removed and viruses detected. Goto http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and update your Windows. It looks like you havent patched in a while based on your version of Internet Explorer.

If you do not have a good antivirus and the most recent security patches you will get infected again. Also, do not download and free spyware removal tools such as Spyhunter and WinAntivirusPro as they are fake spyware removal programs which will plant a trojan on your PC.

Goodluck.

Did you do this step? if not, do it:

Download AVG free from http://free.grisoft.com (http://free.grisoft.com/) . Install it, update it and do a full system scan. It looks like your computer has traces of viruses.

C:\WINDOWS\System32\redistributor.exe
Trojan horse, Win32.Candebe

C:\Program Files\Common Files\{30751C00-0534-1033-0401-030822200001}\Update.exe
Fishy, investigate.

C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\STEM32~1\spool32.exe
This is not supposed to be on any windows past Win98 - find the exact folder. Probably not a legitimate file.

C:\Program Files\M?crosoft.NET\r?gsvr32.exe
Definitely not supposed to be there.

C:\Program Files\System Files\System.exe

UserInit=C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe,omxmnoj. exe
Can't be found on any search engine, careful-

O2 - BHO: CControl Object - {3643ABC2-21BF-46B9-B230-F247DB0C6FD6} - C:\Program Files\E2G\IeBHOs.dll
Definitely a piece of junk.

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [irssyncd] C:\WINDOWS\System32\irssyncd.exe
Trojan.RieMon.Process

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Ooet] C:\PROGRA~1\COMMON~1\STEM32~1\spool32.exe" -vt yazr
There it is again. Wrong location.

All of this is a spawn of some piece of spyware. Careful with what you clean.

Personally, I'd advise a backup, format and fresh reinstall, cause judging by this you've got a host of them on the machine.

An alternative approach requires someone else to help you - someone who can download the newest version of Spybot S&D, AVG and CWSShredder and give them to you on a CD or memory stick - those three, once set in full motion, should be able to clean the mess. Oh, and flush the Internet Explorer browser cache to wipe away anything else that's collected but hasn't activated yet.

By knocking out the source either by manual removal, virus scan and windows update or a total reinstall, it will stop the popups.
