nic cable crash

I have a windows 2000 machine that runs great until you plug a cable into the NIC card. Then continuous boot. Replaced the NIC, twice. Used a USB NIC. Reloaded TCPIP. Computer is Spyware/Virus free. Switched cables, changed location of computer.

Put in new a hard drive, reloaded OS. No problems! This is not a fix because special software runs on this machine that cannot be reloaded without a very high cost to my customer.

Any ideas?

Are there any messages in the Event Viewer?

Check it for viruses/spyware. It could be a problem with that. Try plugging the NIC into another slot on the computer, there may be a problem with the voltages, not sure why , just a hunch.

If you even used a USB NIC, then I can see it being a hardware issue. It definitely sounds like a OS related or spyware issue. Try using the winsock fix app and scan for viruses, etc.

Also, try disable all unnecessary startup items and services.
