I have a clients machine which needs flash player installed. They are unable to view flash content from anywhere. For example, if they goto Youtube it says that they either dont have flash installed, or javascript turned off. I checked and Flash was installed and Javascript was on.
When I goto the Adobe flash site to install Flash I get the error message:
Failed to Install.
For troubleshooting tips, please see http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_19166
Ive used the flash uninstallation tool, ive tried the stand alone flash installer. Ive removed IE7 and Ive uninstalled and reinstalled IE6. Still with the same error.
Its driving me nuts, any ideas?

I had this same problem with a customers PC a few months ago, I ended up doing a clean reinstall due to viruses and spyware problems. I did everything you did and nothing worked. I would also be very intrested in knowing how to fix this issue.

Well, Ive determined that flash works fine under Firefox with no problems on the clients machine. Still unable to get it to work under IE. I think I may just recommend the switch to Firefox. I'll probably say to them that the choice is Firefox which is a far better and safer browser, or I can format the machine which costs more. Chances are they'll go for Firefox.

I had the same problem with a clients machine. I don't remember how we fixed it though. We tried the removal tool and no luck.
One thing that I have noticed about IE7 is that gong to Tools > Internet Options > The Advanced tab > and click on the Reset button has a different affect then just reinstalling IE7.
One day I had another clients computer and IE7 would always lockup. I reinstalled IE7 and no luck. After going to Internet Options and choosing Reset stopped the problem.

I actually have the same problem with a client running Vista Ultimate with IE7, but with quicktime. I have tried everything, then just resorted to using firefox and it works fine. Very strange.

I think Bryce failed to mention what OS this problem was on. Sounds like it could be another Vista problem....uh , I mean feature.

I tried that as well with no luck.

It was XP running IE7.
In the end I just gave them Firefox and told them that in order to get flash working in IE7 I would have to spend a few more hours. Additionally, Firefox is a safer and better browser blah blah... They were happy with it.

Hey guys and gals,
Did you check to see if addons are enabled in IE7? I believe it's Tools > Manage addons.

Yep, checked that. The flash plugin was seen as installed, enabled and working. I even disabled it and enabled it for good measure. No change.

Since it worked in firefox the flash files should be fine. Sounds more like something blocking the activeX controls, possibly in the IE settings or virus scanner.
