hello everyone

im having problems reinstalling win xp... looks that it does not recognize the harddrive... i get this error message "setup can not access this disk"

Likely the HDD is bad thought thier are some other things it could be. I would try to replace the HDD and retry the install first.

Could also be a dodgy IDE/SATA cable.

What I would do is first make sure you have a good cable connection, they can work their way lose over time. Then check the to see if the BIOS sees the drive. If not then try a new IDE/SATA cable. If all that fails I'd say its a bad hard drive.

If you end up getting into the start of installing windows and it errors out around 50-60%, not being able to copy files over; it can be a memory issue. Ran into such a case last week.

the cables look conected, the bios see the HDD, i took out the CMON batery left it out over night, now i have to reset the CMON on every reboot, win erros when it ask where to install the new copy of win, before formating, where win is loaded...

this are the system TEMP... is it ok or is runing hot?

about the system... im triying to install win xp home, CPU is a Duron (amd) 3000+ 1.4 Ghz, 512 Ram DDR 266 thats about it

is there a way to check Ram and the HDD, with out having win installed?

You may also need drivers for the hard drive for motherboard. Ive once had an old computer that did something weird for its IDE controllers. Id had to give the XP setup drivers at the start for it to be able to use the HDDs attached.

at one time the error message was about drivers, i could not read it all because it went away fast... i have the motherboar intalletion CD with the drivers... how can i install the drivers with out having win installed?

here is something alse the PC is doing, and this is the reason i tried to reinstall win... the PC boots up constantly, and freezes it lets the CD Rom light on and the CD door dont open... weid stuff... cheers all

thanks to everyone for the help, here is more information on the win xp install error,

win xp setup

1) "setup is loading files" there is no problem here
2) "setup is starting win" the problem starts here
3) "examining disk configuration" the HDD configuration is wrong

this disk is a 40 GBs

the setup reads it has
39206 MB disk 0 at Id 0 on Bus 0 on atapi

message
<setup cannot access this disk>

.to setup win xp on the selected item, press enter

there is a problem on any thing i select - <setup cannot access this disk>

on D to delete
