I am about to build my son a computer and wanted to know if any of you can recommend a filtering software. Something that is free would be greatly appreciated. Though if I must pay that is ok also.

I answered this question once before. I have found most parental control software lacking. The one thing that I have found that does work however is installing a keylogger on the system and watching what the kids do very closely. I have 3 kids ages 10, 14 and 17. This approch has worked better than any other that I have tried. I cought my 17 year old stepdaughter trying to hook up with some 26 year old off of myspace, and my 14 year old trying to look up porn. Punishment was handed out and I have not had a problem since. They know that everything they type, look at or see, I will see. It really does keep them clean.

K9 Web Protection (http://www1.k9webprotection.com/)

I've only used it once before but the customer was happy with it and it's free :)

I agree with 'Slinger. I do the same with a 17 yr old and 14 yr old. Once they realize that they can't hide anything, it keeps them honest. (at least as far as the computer goes, anyway!)
