I had an interesting service call this afternoon which called on me to diagnose why my client's wireless EV-DO device was unable to connect to the Internet. The VZAccess Manager software was showing a connection to the Internet, but IE7 was not displaying pages. Opening a command window, I was able to ping and tracert all I wanted. Decided to remove McAfee and the browser began working. Replaced McAfee with AVG and browser started acting up again. Contacted Verizon and they wanted me to disable the anti-virus. I openly wondered if Verizon Wireless supported any anti-virus product. The tech girl told me Verizon only supports the connection and the device without presence of an anti-virus and it wasn't a defect in the device. I informed her I thought it was more of a defect of the entire service and likened it to racing motorcycles without a helmet. Still unsatisfied with the Internet service, my client was ready to pack it all back up and get his money back. Before going there, I decided to install Firefox and viola! The Internet is working perfectly under Firefox, just not IE7 under Vista.
This revelation didn't seem to impress my technically-impaired client, who was distraught IE7 was in conflict with his access software. He was still prepared to take it all back.
