Hey, this is a post made in contrast to the MythBuntu post made earlier this week. Apparantly my HTPC of choice, XBMC has released a new version of their software which includes an AMAZING new GUI and a whole bunch of improvements.

You can find out more over here (http://xbmc.org/team-xbmc/2009/12/24/xbmc-9-11-camelot/)

Oh, and here are a few screenshots of XBMC- sadly though there is still no Blu-Ray support and it's the only feature that's missing from Linux HTPC's...why can't OS developers get off their high horse and just take the DRM so I can play Blu-Ray?.../rant

Oh yeah, screenshots.

Rarely the OS developers fault on that one, generally the DRM holders tend to ask a small amount of money for the right to use DRM codecs, and well basic math, if you have to pay $3 for each copy of an OS you give away free, you wind up deep in the red fast.

Never knew about that, but hey I'm willing to pay. As it stands the cheapest solution to a custom HTPC w/ Blu-Ray and general computing use would be $100+ for Windows 7 Home Premium. I'd be willing to pay just as much for a linux version with Blu-Ray and I'm sure at least 90% of the general public would be willing to pay half of that for it.

Simple solution- make two versions. 0-DRM w/o Blu-Ray for $0.00 and DRM w/ Blu-Ray for $COST OF DRM + Small Profit Margin. It's fair, and it allows people to throw away the "Windows Tax" in exchange for a cheaper "Blu-Ray Tax"

Still, I'm not a software developer so I have no clue about the details and work involved.
