Shares Not Working Properly

I have a machine, Server 2003 Domain Controller, that has network shares on it.

XP Pro SP3 machines trying to acess those shares are having some weird issues.

When browsing to \\servername\, I get a blank page within Windows Explorer with '0 Objects' listed.

When browsing to \\serverIP\, it works properly.

When browsing to \\servername.domain-name.local\, it works properly.

Sounds to me like DNS issues. You can resolve the address by IP but not host name so you might want to check that.

And yet when running "ping -a SERVERIP" it resolves to the FQDN (SERVERNAME.DOMAINNAME.LOCAL).

Still seems DNS related sure it can look up the IP and get the machine name but the problem looks to be with looking up the IP from the machines name.

When I ping servername, it does resolve to the proper IP. I just noticed that the DHCP server was disconnected, so I reconnected it and am restarting the workstations now to see if that helps.
