Looking for suggestions on a remote access program. I have used Gbridge on several occasions because it is free but also limited. I am wondering about people’s real life experiences with other programs. Some of these programs are just too expensive for me (TeamViewer $699). I did find that some programs do not reconnect after reboot (especially in safe mode) which is often an essential feature.

Some of the most popular:
LogMeIn
RealVNC
GoToMyPC
Gbridge
TeamViewer

I have Teamviewer and love it. I tried all of them (I think). I know it's expensive but worth every penny in my opinion.

Can you give some feedback on some of the ones you tried?

OK lets see,

Remote Helpdesk by GID- good but limited features and can be laggy when running some applications.

Crossloop-to many disconnects, not professional

Simple Help- very laggy (at least for me)

Logmein and Gotoassist- Good but no one time fee. Expensive in the long run

I know I tried more but can't remember off the top of my head...

Overall I just liked the overall feel of TV. Right now I am working on 7 machines remotely at the same time (monthly maintenance for a business account) with absolutely no issues. Version 5 is out in beta which looks even more impressive.

I was using OneClick, but it was a real PITA. I started using GoToAssist Express and it's well worth the money. I with it could allow client-initiated sessions, but that's the only negative I have.

GoToAssist Express.

I've tried TechInLine (still have some paid sessions there), SkyFex, and some others I can't remember. The ability to reboot and auto-reconnect, set up unattended supprt, and the quality of the software made it the winner hands down! Get the trial and wait a few weeks after it expires to sign-up and you'll get a 30% off discount making it $49/month.

I personally like showmypc.com. Free and Simple for the End User.

Thanks,

Thanks,

The free version does not reconnect after reboot but at $14/month is not bad at all. Teamviewer is probably better but I can not justify it without a monthly maintenance contract to justify the cost.

Thanks for the good feedback. I am sure others here have something to add.

I've been experimenting with a number of apps as well, and I agree with NickCat11- TW is oh so nice. I do remote support with it, but since I have not purchased the commercial license for it I cannot charge for my work. So instead I use it to help friends, family, and recent customers who need follow up support on jobs I did for them in the past.

I keep looking for new RS apps that equal TeamViewer but without the price, but as of yet I have found none. I'd love more than anything to stay at home and maintain PCs for revenue, but the capital just isn't there yet. You truly get what you pay for with TeamViewer.

I've been using LogMeIn free, which works well enough.

I just signed up for a free trial of GoToAssist, which is working out really well. The Express version is meant for a single user and can connect to 8 customers simultaneously. The installer is web based using fastsupport.com and a 9 digit pin. The program can be set to remove itself after use and is very customer friendly. It does support file-transfer as well. Monthly price is $69.

I think it is a great solution for residential remote support.

I trialed GoToAssist and I ended up going with Teamviewer. Teamviewer is a one time fee of $700 if you go with the business edition. With GoToAssist you'll be paying more than that the first year alone.
