Anyone ever have an issue with activation after doing a repair install. When you have to activate right then and the activation window never loads or you just get logged off immediately.
I think it usually happens if you do the repair with a SP2 disc and SP3 was installed or if they have IE8 installed.
Anyway if you boot the machine into safe mode with command prompt then run the explorer.exe command to start explorer you can to the desktop but of course not activate in safe mood.
Download IE8 and Windows hotfix KB946501 and install both in safemode reboot and your problems are solved. You'll then be able to get to the activation window.
Hope that helps someone.

Interesting. Haven't had that problem before but have had problems with windows update after a repair install and applying SP3. I have a fix for that somewhere, I just don't have it with me at the moment.

Really? I have seen it a couple of times. Enough to irritate me. Usually it is a result of the client trying to solve a virus issue on their own and screwing the system up. So perhaps it is a virus causing it to hang or log off.

Never seen it. Once you get the activation window, does it activate OK?

Ya. Once you do the hotfix and install IE8 in safemode command prompt upon reboot the activation window will come up successfully and then it can be activated.

Happy Thanksgiving All!!!!
