Hey I have recently gotten what appears to be a virus. Now Im not 100% sure about It. But what happened was a friend sent me a link that I expect to be a so called "Virus Links". But really Who does. Me and My friends ofen share Websites that we make with each other. I never really took a second look at the link before i clicked it. And after I clicked it It said I had to download it. And it then started downloading. And once you open the file I figure it goes to work. As most viruses do. Unless your wanting to play with fire I will say DONT ENTER THE LINK
but the link was http //membres.lycos.fr/newphotos2007/images2007.zip and once it downloaded if I remember right the file was called Images 2007 nd it was a zipped folder... last part of the link "/images2007.zip" Now I have receved a virus through msn that the link name contained my user name. Which I am well aware now its not a good idea to folow but I wasnt expecting something bad from this link. If you have any Ideas or know anything about it plz reply... I hope i can get this thing off with out me or anyone alse haveing to kill my computer.
thank you.

First delete that file if you can. Now have you opened that file or begun experiencing any problems with the machine to suggest you are infected? Run any and all virus scans you can what ever you have installed then try some the ones reccommended here such as clamwin, avg, and free online scan trendmicro house call

Im not sure what exaclty its supsose to be... I had opened the file. The only thing it has seemed to affect is msn. I have run afew scans, such as spy bot. avg nd ad aware just to see if they could find an error any where. In messanger it seem like it had been trying to send the link to other people I hadnt been talking to about 5 people and it opened chats with them. thats what made me think it would be a virus. But I asked the people if they receved a link and all of them said no the only like that was sent to a contact was to a msn program smarterchild. As of now I havnt seen anyways it has changed or afected my computer in anyother ways. Well I will keep seaching for something on it. and stay of msn to hopfully keep from infecting anyone alse... oh one thing i forgot it kinda seemed weird to me... after when i looked at the file type it clamed to be a screen saver file. :S any ideas? is that just a cover?

It is common for screen saver files to be a virus becuase it is a good place to plant one. The attackers are looking for the easy targets and people who run around downloading all the unnecessary garbage they can find are just that. A popular, or atleast was, thing for people to download was screen savers so hide your malicous intent behind the cloak of a fun cool screen saver.

I think I've got a similar virus. I got it from a french person, so I don't know what it was saying, but I think it sent me a zipped folder pretending to be photos.

When I opened it it straight away opened conversations with all my contacts, and tried to send them folders.

First thing I did was to shut down MSN messenger, then delete the folder I got sent. However, whenever I log on it still tries to start conversations with everybody.

I've tried virus scanning but it hasn't found anything.

I've deleted and reinstalled MSN but it still carries on.

Help!

Well My computer seems to be happy now nd so does msn... I did delete the file and It seemed to clear up. It hasnt done any funny stuff since. About what you mentioned ging. One of my friends I was talking to was telling me about a msn worm/bug/virus what ever you want to call it... I forget the name but what it did was placed files randomly in your computer... Most liky in deep dark places where they will not be easly found. and if it is of that style see if you can find a removal tool and if not... And you cant get it off. Let a some very computer/virus smart person fight with it... well good luck
Nd thanks for the info blues. Ha I am certenly not one of those ppl that download those... " COOL screen savers." I try ta keep an eye out for computer harming things on the intnet.. but i have walked into a couple...
well peace everyone...

I think I've sorted it out now.

The Mcafee i got with my laptop didn't find it, I downloaded spyhunter which told me I had a virus but not how to get rid of it, then I downloaded AVG free and it sorted it straight away. Cheers for the advice and recommendation of AVG.

Have to say this is the first time this has happened to me, I can usually spot viruses on msn, but it just happened that it was a folder sent from someone I met on holiday, pretending to be photos, so i opened it to see. O well problem solved, thanks again!

i have the same problem with the MSN screensaver thing. I downloaded it by accident and then opened it to see what it was because it came frome one of my friends.

So anyway it dosn't come up on any of the Anti-virus Anti-adware or Anti-spyware programs that other people have suggested.

I have found the files in my c-drive in the windows file. So i deleted them. But when i went back on the internet they started reappearing. And they are still sending themselves to my friends so i cant us MSN any more
