HI - Long time lurker - now need some help. I am trying to help my sister she downloaded a ZIP file and when she went to Un-zip it she got a CRC error. I have tried to repair it using winrar and winzip. Does anyone have any ideas on a program to use? It has happen on few differnt zip files. I would love any help on this. We have even downloaded this file again to a different drive and get the same error.

Thanks

Have you tried PKZipFix that comes with pkzip command-line version? PKZip is the original; Phillip Katz invented this compression.

Is it password protected? There are different standards of encryption that are not compatible. You may be able to use one unzipper that will work and another one that will not. http://www.winzip.com/aes_info.htm#CRC

Google shows some CRC repair programs, but I haven't found a free one.

No password on this Zip file. I already checked that.

what is interesting to me is that he says it has happened on a few different zip files. - aside from that - it is not clear to me mrace134 if you understood that what patrickb was telling you was to USE PKZIPFIX, after reading all these posts, i felt you did not understand that he said to USE PKZIPFIX.

Going WAY out there maybe but several corrupted files...seems once, only once...and long ago bad memory actually caused this, I'd imagine it'd worsen however so again, going WAY out there (possibly). Memtest time perhaps just in case?
