:eek::eek::eek::eek:

One guy got six years because the judge didn't want to pay for computer forensics! It's guilty until proven guilty. And then there are all the techs who purposely search their clients' PCs for kiddie porn and warez, thinking that they'll be a hero. If I stumble across the stuff, sure I'll report. But I don't go through every PC I get and see if the user is doing anything illegal so I can get adulation for turning in a menace. I wouldn't want a tech going through all MY files to try and turn up something. It reminds me of the teachers who go through confiscated student phones trying to find anything objectionable.

I am not addressing your post, however this:

It's guilty until proven guilty.

Has always been the case. I mean, who gets released after booking on a crime unless they pay a fine or bail ?.

That's a real shame if in fact he is innocent...

With anonymity the most average of Joe's can be the most perverse, convoluted, malicious people in the world without any harm. I rarely put trust into people over the internet. This website's an exception, and I only really trust people who have been here longer than I have.

But, I would imagine that some virus kiddie on those "chan" boards are behind this for the "lulz" (do they still say that?).

I wouldn't look through anybody's personal stuff, however if I stumbled across something that involved hurting people, kids or animals I wouldn't close my eyes to it and would probably report them. I can't see how you can do anything different really.

I remember a story where I live (in the UK), where a school teacher got fired because whilst he was teaching a porn popup popped up on the projector, due the school not having sufficient security in place

I see how this guy got hit and easily could have been and seems was innocent. I see how it was found with out a lets go snooping mind set. It seems he was using more bandwidth than any other user on a company network. Now I would say that this company has a poorly configured network if he was getting this much stuff but I am not sure. If we have a high bandwidth user we see what type of traffic it is and what the websites are. We would also look at thier C: to see if they are downloading alot of things where we could stumble onto such material.

I would never grass somebody up for having ilegal or pirated software. It is their problem I just have nothing to with it and will point out what they are doing is ilegal in case they did not know.

When I was a student most my software was pirated as there was no way I could have afforded the legit versions. Now all my software is legit :)

Surely us technicians are liable when we back up peoples data too, we have no idea what we are copying to our hard drives.

No neither would I. The only reason I would do so is if their wallpaper/screensaver was child porn - I don't go looking for it specifically

Yep if it was blatent than I would report it. However having a dodgy copy of Photoshop if I reported that I will quickly discover I have no more customers left. I would also have to move out of my own town :p

Yep, it's the "lulz" people on 4chan. 4chan is absolutely evil, supposedly they've harassed people until the people committed suicide and all they did was laugh. I really don't get the 4chan mindset.

Personally I think it's just a bunch of unruley kids who just simply don't know how the world works yet and want a false sense of power. Although- now I must cower in fear as they might want some "lulz" from me now. That place is also filled with wannabe hackers/script kiddies and sexually perverse adults (Including Child porn, Scat, Slash/Gore and Bestiality)
