Just stumbled upon the follow-up to the seemingly no longer maintained c't offline updater (http://www.heise.de/ct/projekte/Offline-Update-284105.html). It's called WSUS Offline Update, is now donationware and can be found at http://www.wsusoffline.net/.

c't did enjoy some popularity for a while after Microsoft squashed AutoPatcher for a year. AutoPatcher has been back for a couple of years now and does an outstanding job. It is presently maintained.

I tried AutoPatcher; but it seems that every time i go in there to check for new updates; it just re-downloads all updates again ? Unless I'm missing something ..

Hmmm, that has not been my experience. If I attempt to download the same thing, then APUP (Autopatcher Update) verifies that it is already in the Modules folder and skips it. If you select XP SP3 for instance, it WILL download new items that have come out for SP3 since the last time you ran APUP. Once your folder is current, all you have to do is copy the Autopatcher folder to CD/DVD/Flash Drive and run Autopatcher itself. It scans the computer to see what it is missing and shows you what new items are available. Pretty neat!
