Hi Guys,

Thought I'd share this little nugget with you, as it helped me repair a customer’s machine recently. It repairs the 'Layered Service Provider' within the Windows Sockets software, which can become compromised by certain types of Malware and also dodgy 'Internet Filtering' software, as I found out.

The software is called 'LSP-Fix' - I can't link to it yet because of Forum Rules, but do a Google search and you'll find it easily enough. Knuckles can you provide a link for the peeps?

Here's my experience...

After my customer installed some dodgy 'Internet Filtering' type software, his machine started to act very strangely - randomly rebooting upon Windows start-up, Safe Mode disabled(!) and other such horrors!

Long story short, I had to boot Windows from a custom XP Bootable CD and run the LSP-Fix software from there. It fixed it perfectly first time! Nothing I used beforehand would resolve this issue - Multiple application AV scans, HiJackThis!, Spybot, AdAware, you name it I tried it - all to no avail.

Worth a try if all else fails or a great place to start! :)

We've been using LSP-Fix here at my company for a few years. It is VERY helpfull. When NewDotNet was a huge problem it was the easiest way to get rid of its dns component.

Yeah, its an excellent tool. Even worth re-mentioning. We covered it in April this year as our Repair Tool of the Week:
