Colors and Images

My client has been using his laptop for well over a year without some colors and images not showing up at all or not showing up correctly in some applications. It's only just became a major issue now that he plans to use salesforce.com for his company and the app is of course not showing up correctly.
Here are the basics:
Highlighting excel does not show the colors correctly but if you save the doc and look at it on another machine it does of course. Colors show up in Word.
Firefox default start page shows no logo but on a site like google news you can see images. I haven't been to salesforce but he says it looks colorless and bland. His website has a black background but shows up white. Windows itself: the taskbar, startmenu, window borders, etc. show up fine.

It seems such a random thing. I have just started working on it and I hope I can figure it out. Just wanted to share this strange issue and wondering if you guys had any insight to this.
I'm gonna check the driver which is ATI Mobility Raedon 9000 for a dell Latitude d600. The themes, fonts and colors are correct and it is not a broswer issue as it happens in office.

It looks like it is not displaying hexadecimal colors. Like in excel highlighting and the firefox/google start page logo is just table with hex colors.
What would be making the whole OS not show these colors?

Was what I thought it was just not where I thought it was.
The way he described it was puzzling, i thought images weren't showing up just hex colors.
High contrast was set to on in the accessibility features. Okay maybe someone will find this useful or funny.
Didn't take to long and was close to what i thought it was.
