Hey guys, I don't know if this is the right place to talk about this but I have finished my logo that I've been trying to perfect. I wouldn't say "finished" but more like "At the point where I need critique".

Anyway, here it is.

http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/3184/mylogoj.png

The top one is for web graphics whereas the bottom one is for print. So please tell me what you guys think and where I can improve.

(Oh, and moderators. If this is in the wrong place please move it. Thanks a lot)

I like it not really sure about the smiling face with it. Might consider changing that up for something else.

Glad you like it. And what do you suggest I replace Moe with? (Moe, e"MO"ticon)

I like it, it's simple, and not too busy, yet bold enough to catch your attention.

Thanks a lot. That's what I was trying to go for with Moe. Simplicity.

Originally he was going to have a mouth, but then I realized that it made you want to turn your head away from it. So I took away his mouth. In the earliest version, he has a set of eyes instead of glasses but then looked more like a smiley and not a geek/nerd.

+1, I personally like it as well.

Great, so that's 2 Positives, 1 "Still Needs Work" and 0 Negatives. Things are looking good. I will base my decision after we get 5 votes on whether or not I will keep it and tweak it, or trash it.

Thanks Nick :)

I struggling to think of anything you could replace Moe with. The only thing that comes to mind is an On\Off button. But I am sure I have seen that elsewhere in someones logo.

Name of the business will be Nerds for Hire. So, I don't know if it's a functional logo if I put a power on/off button instead. I can however remove Moe completely out of the picture and use him as my mascot.

Looks good. I wouldn't go with an on/off button. Too many businesses already have that. Yours is unique.

Thanks a lot for the comments. 3+, 1 Neutral, 0 negative. Looks like I'm using this logo! Once again, thank you.

Looks good. I especially like how the text looks. Might I suggest that you draw a little more attention to the lil dude but adding some shine to his glasses?

I like it enough to want one too...hehe, j/k. Looks nice, only thing that could improve and you might totally not be going that route would be a more glass-like glow or more defined gradient on the text...or a sparkle to the glasses as was mentioned. Really it looks great as is though...just figured about everyone wants to imitate Vista/Win7 Aero Glass so if you decide to do the same....well see the first part of this reply.:D

Thanks alot, you just made it official- THIS WILL BE MY LOGO.

I tried adding some shine to his glasses and as it turns out it once again makes the logo too distracting. Having more than two colors in a logo is a nono- I already have Red and Orange. For me to add shade to his glasses it will have to be blue- not gray or else it looks flat. I think Moe is happy the way he is- a two dimensional non-refracted glasses emoticon who is my mascot.

Also, thanks on the text. I was trying to make it look "fast" so I decided to go with a font that is designed to be italic only as well as give it a bold- racecar look so I looked at NASCAR's font and looked for one similar too it and here we are. I might have to spread the letters a little more further apart, but apart from that it seems this logo is finished!

Thanks a lot guys for all of your input. Wait a week or so (maybe more) to see what I got working on for a website!

Tweak, read the above ;) Also, if you want I can sell you a button of Moe for $4.99 + shipping! (Just kidding, Moe buttons aren't on sale....yet.)

Right on, your reasons make sense, looks good and I'm sure "Moe" will serve ya well.

It reminds me of Microsoft Bob... not saying it is a positive or negative, just saying...

Thanks a lot! I really like your "blade-swoosh" logo a lot, Personally I would of love to know how to design though, but I can't.

Nah, MS Bob was too detailed. Not only did he have gradients and shadows, he had detailed glasses, eyes and a mouth. Moe doesn't speak, so he has no need for a mouth.

I cannot think of anything that can be changed and remain simple.
For what is meant is PERFECT.
You may want to make it smoother on the eye, even the printable version.
Maybe changing to a different shade of gray, yet leave a subtile border which will nicely integrate with the interior as a gradient and with the exterior also as a gradient but less thick.

Just my opinion.

Okay, well since it's officially my logo I've decided to finish it up by giving it minor touchups.

http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/702/logofinalk.png

But Joe, that's the same thing!

I know, but I just did MINOR changes. I fixed the angle of the little "bullets" under the word "FOR" added a white drop shadows to the words "NERDS" and "HIRE" to give the illusion that it's embossed and in the Black & White version I gave the word "FOR" as well as Moe a shade of gray just because I wanted to. Also, instead of a graphite colored background and border for Moe I went with a black background. Contrast is king when you want to attract eyeballs...so I went with Black now.

I also expanded the space in between the letters a little bit because the original logo looked a little too compressed and not wide enough. So here we are the semi-final version. (If I get any major complaints then I will go touch it up some more, but if I don't then I will keep it as it is and start on my website)

Looks like you're all set to me. What software are you using to design your site?

When I design my websites I start by making a draft in Fireworks then move to Photoshop for stuff that Fireworks can't do. Finally I use Dreamweaver (yeah I know DW sucks, but I don't want to buy Expression Web yet) to code the HTML and then use any text editor I can to integrate it into joomla or drupal, whichever I feel at the moment.

Sadly I can only make websites and graphics for myself since it takes me so God damned long to make them. Any customer would be furious with me if I were to sell my services ;)

I like the logo but the color one look a bit fadded. I did a quick search for Nerds 4 Hire and saw a tone of companies with the same name. Even one with a similar logo. What is your site... I would like to check it out.

Especially this one in Oregon (http://www.nerds-4-hire.com/contactus.htm). (I see you are in Florida).

Of course, their logo REALLY looks like a happy version of MS Bob...

Hmm, did you mean "Faded" or literally like my logo looks like it's a "Fad" I just didn't understand- sorry :(

Also- that's Nerds 4 Hire, not Nerds For Hire ;)

I don't have a website yet, still building it...but I bought the domain name recently. MyNerdsForHire.com (Remember though, it's empty but should be up by the end of the week)

Hmm- well, his logo isn't a logo. I made 'Moe' as part of my logo as well as my mascot. This guy just has a mascot and a text logo. And my God that man sure loves his fonts...Times New Roman, Arial, Papyrus, And a plethora of other fonts on ONE PAGE....Three fonts maximum- 1 master font, 1 header font and one accent font...that's it. >_<

Anyway, the "emoticon" is pretty much a universal image and I think I should be in the clear. I'm opening up a new thread soon which will have my entire corporate identity which includes...
Logo
Website
Business Card
Letterhead
Envelope
Presentation Folder

and maybe some advertising materials like flyer's and door hangers if I get a chance to.
