Fabs AutoBackup is a small, portable application that allows you to pick and choose what you (or your client) want to back up with simple check boxes. The program does the rest. After the format, you can also use AutoBackup to restore all the files back to where they should be. We have actually covered Fabs AutoBackup about a year ago but it is now Windows Vista and Windows 7 Compatible and had added quite a few new features making it worth mentioning again.
For a list of what AutoBackup supports backing up and restoring, read on.

Is it just me or is you like to download this thing not working?
Same problem, download link (author’s site) just hangs. Must be overloaded. You can get a beta version from a MajorGeeks.com server.
It just hangs, I just tried myself. Is there a difference between this version and the beta version at MajorGeeks.com?
Looks like the one from MajorGeeks.com version is old. If anyone has this file please upload it to fileplanet and let us dl it. thanks.
Here are some mirrors:

all the beta versions tell me they are expired and won’t backup.
The site seems to be working again so I snagged a copy quickly in case it goes back down.
Usual disclaimers on downloading stuff, blah blah but it’s what I just downloaded and says it expires in oct.

I use the version bundled with UBCD4Win and it has simplified the OS reinstall process tremendously.
I have to say.. a day after this article appeared I had to do a transfer for a client at a company from one pc to another and this little tool literally saved me hours of guesswork.
The only thing I had to do using another tool (abc outlook backup) was copy some other outlook settings like the account settings signatures but other than that it was very good.
highly recommend this…

The site tells beta will expires on October 31, 2009.
Can you use Fab’s autobackup to silently backup and silently restore?
Many thanks!
How can i automate a weekly backup using Autobackup?
I have been using this tool for many years.

Fab’s Autobackup is a great tool for backing up failing hard drives from a Pe environment. It is not automated.
If you want automated backups then use Cobian Backup.

I use this tool several times a week and have good luck with. I have seen a few issues with Outlook not restoring correctly so make sure you cover your bases with in that aspect. I make my own backup copy of Outlook separately because this missed it a few times even though I had that part checked.
Hello. I am Fab’s AutoBackup developper. The program is not a beta anymore. The final version has been release on last thursday. Automation is not yet implemented but I think it is really easy to use. Helpful for technicians and also for absolute beginners. It is not freeware but it is very cheap : 4,70€ (around 6,87$). PE version will be made too. See you later on my home page
