An article has been posted at Computerworld about a person’s experience on running the final code of Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista.
He noted that copying files to local disks and across networks are slower before he installed the service pack even though Microsoft says that its internal testing shows an improvement of speed of up to 50%.
The article is four pages long and there are also images about what users can expect in the service pack.
Another thing that he noted is that a user’s PC may feel sluggish and that’s due to the fact that the SuperFetch data is cleared after the SP1 installation. So, as time goes on, the user’s computer will regather the data once more to regain its previous speed.

I’ve been getting some bad feedback about vista in general from my customers, could be because they simply dont’ know it well enough; however, when one of the guys that actually tested vista (i know him personally) expressed his dissatisfaction, I’ve got nothing else to add.

had breakfast with a soon-to-be-client and friend today who said SP1 has been a marked improvement for him especially in the file copy space. He gave the example of copying 1.6 gig from one internal SATA drive to another internal SATA drive in 6 minutes. I really couldn’t say if that was terribly quick or not. But he did say the eternal “Calculating…” in the copy dialog box is gone.
I’ve been using Vista for about 9 months now. I have had fewer problems with Vista than I had with any other new version of Windows. It works with all my peripherals and is more stable than any other version especially when first released. Of course if XP is working for you on older hardware than don’t upgrade. But I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to someone buying a new pc.
Still though, Windows is releasing a new windows OS soon, so in my opinion, it means they do not have the confidence in their current vista OS. Personally XP > Vista.
I agree with both Philadelphia area computer repair, and Genesis Bible on this one. I have been using Vista for over a year now and have had nothing but problems with it. If it offered any real advantages over XP I might see a need in trying to work out all Its many flaws, but Vista has no advantages over XP. Other than DX10 if you are a gammer maybe thats important to you. Vista is buggy, unstable, slow and a resource hog. What else can be said?
