I had just installed Windows 7 Evaluation version to give it test drive. After installation it told me that my main hard drive was bad and I needed to do a backup and replace it. Now I am trying to reinstall windows XP and every hard drive I have tried to intall the OS on, new and used, tells me "the file acpi.sys is corrupted" how do I get around this. Thanks

I've been looking at Solid State Disks (SSD). They have had some bad press in regard to reliability but it seems to be changing. Intel are claiming 5 years "useful life" for their X-18M SSD based on a hefty data writing load of 100GB/day. Metron are willing to offer a 5 year warranty on their SSD Pro 7000 series. Price is still a problem but some are predicting parity with conventional HDD in 2011.

[...] Computer Technicians 203: Hard Disk Failures - One of the most hazardous, annoying, and generally panic-inducing failures that happen on any computer are hard-drive failures. While they can be moderately to extremely hard to fix, diagnosing them comes first, so you could be able to determine just how much damage the disk sustained and can sustain before it finally dies.
