Nice tool, added to my kit
I wonder where you got this idea Bryce?
Special Love goes out to gunslinger for recommending the menu program PStart which we are using in this kit.
@gunslinger…here perhaps?
http://dailycupoftech.com/usb-drive-systems/3/
Hey Bryce, I tried to download the zip file and my Sonicwall Firewall said this file was a virus “Name: Autoit.AX (Trojan)”
I’m sure you didn’t do this, but is it somewhere it could have one piggybacked on it?
Jason, which file did it say it was attached to? Or was the zip itself? AVG isn’t reporting anything.
This is what my sonicwall reports when when I try to click “Download: Computer Repair Utility Kit.zip 44mb”
“This request is blocked by the SonicWALL Gateway Anti-Virus Service. Name: Autoit.AX (Trojan)”
This is the address it sends me too.. “http://www.anime-forums.com/misc/Computer%20Repair%20Utility%20Kit.zip”
Actually Steve I introduced Bryce and many others to this idea. Its not my own idea but I have been running my apps kit this way for almost 3 years now. Thanks for the ” Special Love” Bryce, its just nice to have a little credit now and then. I always recommend your site to my tech friends.
I am behind a SonicWall firewall and we do have AV setup and I got nothing here. I am going to run a scan on it here and then some other checks I suggest everyone else do so as well so we can get a varity of results. I think that it is one of the tools as I believe mentioned in one of the tools it is sometimes recognized as a virus even though it is not. I think we should all check our copies to verify anyhow besides this hang up for Jason it is a great little kit.
I checked with AVG again. Im not getting anything. I assuming Jason got a false negative. Since many of these tools have the ability to edit registries, processes and are almost hacking tools. Perhaps thats what set off his AV?
Is anyone able to host a mirror?
I downloaded from another network and it went fine. I’ll look into it later, but it does seem to be clean. BTW, This looks like something I’ll use alot. Thanks for all the work you guys do on here, it us techie’s lives alot easier.
Jason
Hi guys,
http://www.mcdonalds.net.au/ComputerRepairUtilityKit.zip
I am uploading this file right now you will be able to download from this link and not wait for 2 hours
Graeme, may I post that link next to the other link?
I can’t download the file from either mirror :\ It gets to 99% and then bombs out.
On another note – do you run anime-forums then bryce?
Simon, I just test downloaded it from Graemes mirror and extracted it without any problems. Perhaps a firewall or AV?
And yes, I also own Anime-forums.com
Yeah nevermind, I realised NOD32 was silently blocking viruses. It seems it found one in “keyfinder.exe”, but I guess it’s only triggered by the nature of the file rather than it being a virus.
Bryce You can post the link beside the other one thats no issue at all
I use nod32 and have had no viruses detected in the zip file .
I have selected the option to “detect potentially unsafe applications” from within NOD32, which is usually disabled by default.
Wow, what a great idea! Thanks Bryce!
Magic Jellybean Keyfinder will be identified as a virus in MANY anti-virus programs… It’s not a real virus, it’s just considered malware by these companies as it could lead to mischievious use.
And, this is an awesome compilation of tools! I was beginning to start my own pocket toolbox and presto! the good people at Technibble have made one for me!
Everest Free edition.
All the information you ever want to know about your machine.
SIW (included in the kit) is far superior to Everest and thus Everest wasnt included.
http://www.gtopala.com/
Yeah right. Awesome. I better look harder at all the toys
Instead of Magic Jellybean Keyfinder, what about this: http://www.jalapenosoftware.com/Demo.htm
Ecio, although I do support paid software if its good, only free things are going to included in this kit.
Bryce.. ¡¡te felicito, muchas gracias!!
Thanks for putting this together, I’ve been thinking of doing a project like this for years, glad somebody else took the initiative.
FYI – there’s a typo in your list of apps – it says “Calm” rather than “Clam.”
Thanks again for building this.
Sorry guys mirror 2 Has gone down some time in the morning due to a hard drive that failed in the web server. This server was not using raid either
The system is being rebuilt and data will be restored from back ups. It should be back online some time tonight.
No need to apologise Graeme. You know we love you for hosting it at all
haha thanks Bryce. Web server is back online, mirror 2 will now work
Greetings. I’m running Vista Home Premium and cannot download the repair utility kit. Any recommenedations ? Stalled ouit after about 17%. Help
Thanks for the download a great little set up.
P.S. I’ve also downloaded the Computer Business kit and the 2 together are worth the price
keep up all the good work quality honest free advice is hard to come by
There is a virus on this comp repair kit, its a windows validation trojan, AND IM PISSED OFF THAT NOW I HAVE TO GET THE TROGAN OFF THE COMPUTER! There needs to be more discussion on this program!
Can anyone confirm jake’s finding? is it a real virus?
Pete, its a double negative. These applications are DESIGNED to edit registries, view serial numbers, make changes to the system etc..
Some antivirus products detect some of these tools as viruses because certain viruses do similar things.
Many of these tools are now outdated or will not work with Vista. I am really excited to see a collection such as this but would love to se an updated edition.
I tried downloading it, but my av keeps reporting a Trojan. i can believe that it is a false positive, but unfortunately i cant download it because of that…
Isn’t there some way of encrypting the download with a password lock so that it can be downloaded without setting off firewalls and AV software?
there are multiple viruses here. HOw ironic.
Virus eradicating software contains viruses.
Seems somewhat redundant eh?
Get a clue. Quit makeing the world worse and help to make it better.
Bob, they are called false positive. These applications are DESIGNED to edit registries, view serial numbers, make changes to the system etc..

I have downloaded the Computer Repair Utility Kit twice now and have tried to open it with 2 different versions of winzip. It says the file is corrupt or not a valid archive. I have no other problems with any other zip file – only this one.
Downloaded the kit yet again and this time tried extracting using jZip utility. Same message. It is saving fine – no errors, but will NOT open using a zip utility. I even saved it to a different location. What is the deal??
Gary, your antivirus is probably nuking it. This thing sets off some false positives. I’ll be releasing the next version in a week or so (this one is pretty old now) so if you want to wait you’ll have the new version.
Good call! Even though my antivirus software was not displaying a message, I disabled it during the download and install and all is fine. Thanks for putting all of these great tools together!!
Would it be possible to add a timestamp below the release or something so we know when it was last updated? Just a thought…
McAfee let it download, but on a manual scan it detected a trojan attached to the .zip file. It did not specify any file within the archive, only the archive itself. I have not tried any other AVs.
wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen is the new version coming out?! hehe I don’t want to dowload these files individually

This would be interesting to see this completed and updated. Im just putting my two cents in, would love to see the updated version!
+1 for a great idea
I found myself searching the web for this, and I managed to find a site with a few mirrors:
http://www.planetlowyat.com/blog/computer-repair-utility-kit-you-can-run-from-a-usb-drive/
have none of you seen this?????
i have been using portable apps for years, and if you want encryption look for Geek.menu at sourceforge or on the portable apps site.
i use all of these tools on my custom geek menu encrypted drive and many more. you can even convert an existing app into a portable one (doesnt always work).
Far superior!
Tim
looking forward for a new version.i’ve wait for so long!
THis is great! Trenton Computer Repair!
when is the new version out it seems really interesting woow
Why not keep the old version around while you work on the new one?
Can’t wait for the new one. I really wanted to download it now, but eh i’ll wait i guess!
I think you missed a great app to add. ccleaner has a portable version.
I have been on your forum for about 6 months now, and I’ve been waiting to see when you are going to post the new version for download, I missed it last time you did. I don’t have the old version either but I keep reading what a wonderful tool to have, when are you going to host it again for download, or is ther another site that have it available?
thanks a lot…
I’m also waiting for the new version. My flash drive was scrambled and I hadn’t backed up the old version, so I lost it!
When will the new one be ready? The week promised has significantly passed!
John
