Advertising on the Inside

Nearly every business owner knows that they need to get their advertising out there in the public, but what many of them overlook is advertising inside their own shops. I am often amazed how many businesses poorly advertise themselves on their own premises. If you have paid to get them in your shop with outside sources of advertising such as letterbox drops and newspapers, don’t lose them by not advertising inside your shop.

You will notice that most businesses have a public area with cash registers or chairs if there may be a wait. In a doctors surgery, they will have all sorts of promotional material in its waiting area which might be about getting your flu shot or to get that mole checked out. Your local dentist may have brochures about teeth whitening or before-and-after photos. This type of advertising is really effective because when people are bored they want something to read (I know I do), it might as well be your advertising material.

If you have an area like this use it to your full advantage. Make some flyers about your backup or wireless internet services. Have a business card holder filled with business cards for them to take as needed. Have a price list next your registers that they can take home. If they dont know what you offer they cant buy it from you.

If you have any certifications or letters from happy customers, frame them and hang them on the wall. This builds up the profile in their minds that you are a reputable and honest business.

If you have any staff that work out front, make sure they know how to sell and make them available to answer any customer questions. You can read a little bit more about this in our article Can your Staff Sell?.

I am sure each any every one of you could think of something to promote in the room where your customers go.
